By now, you have created a hundred of different scenarios on how the pregnancy and labour will go. You are making yourself more and more worried, so you decide to get up and make yourself a warm cup of milk. And while you are drinking the delicious comforting drink, you browse the internet to find something to calm your mind.
Sounds familiar? Well, you are not alone.
Visualisation technique to calm your mind and relax your body
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Gently close your eyes and slow down your breathing. Make your inhale and exhale longer, but still follow your own pace that is comfortable for you.
Mentally scan your body from toes to head for any physical tensions. When you find a tense area in your body, with each exhale say to yourself internally or out loud “RELAX”. Repeat this until you feel the tension dissipate from your body. Continue to scan your body until all the tense areas are relaxed.
Now focus on your thoughts, which are presenting themselves in the moment. If there are any worrying thoughts, with each exhale say to yourself internally or out loud “RELEASE”. Mentally see the thought floating out of your mind, towards the sky, quickly disappearing in the distance into nothing. Repeat this for few minutes or until there are no thoughts left in the moment.
Now imagine the colour you associate with being relaxed and calm. See this relaxation colour surrounding you and holding you in a bubble, gently swirling around you, taking you deeper and deeper into relaxation. Feel how this relaxation colour eases your body and mind, putting you in a state of peace, calm and relaxation.
Enjoy this tranquillity for as long as you like. And when you are ready to come back, just count from one to five and slowly open your eyes.
